If I opt to NOT update to Windows 11 and just get the extended security updates for windows 10. Will my computer automatically update to windows 11 when I restart it? I have an online game on it that is not compatible with windows 11 and I want to keep playing it No, your computer will not automatically update to Windows 11 just because you restart it — especially if you've opted to stay on Windows 10 and are receiving Extended Security Updates (ESUs). Here’s how it works: 🛡️ Staying on Windows 10 with ESUs • Extended Security Updates are designed to keep your Windows 10 system secure without forcing an upgrade to Windows 11. • You’ll continue to get critical security patches through 2028 (if you subscribe to ESUs), but feature updates and OS upgrades like Windows 11 are not included or automatic. ⚙️ What triggers a Windows 11 upgrade? • Windows 11 upgrades typically require explicit user consent or manual initiation via Windows Update or installation media. • You might see notifications or prompts encouraging you to upgrade, but unless you click “Download and install,” it won’t proceed. • If you’re using Group Policy or registry settings to block upgrades, that adds another layer of protection. 🕹️ For your game compatibility Since your game isn’t compatible with Windows 11, you’re safe to continue playing it on Windows 10 as long as: • You don’t accept the upgrade prompt. • You disable automatic OS upgrades in your update settings or via Group Policy (if applicable). • You keep your system backed up, just in case.

If you want to stay with Windows 10 and not get annoyed by the constant reminders to update to Windows 11: 🛑 Step 1: Disable Windows 11 Upgrade via Group Policy (Pro Editions only) If you're running Windows 10 Pro, you can use Group Policy: 1. Press Windows + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter. 2. Navigate to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Windows Update for Business 3. Double-click "Select the target Feature Update version". 4. Set it to Enabled. 5. In the field, enter: Windows 10 6. Click Apply and OK. This tells Windows to stay on Windows 10 and ignore Windows 11 upgrades. 🧱 Step 2: Block Windows 11 via Registry Editor (Home & Pro) If you're on Windows 10 Home, use the Registry: 1. Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter. 2. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate 3. If WindowsUpdate doesn’t exist, right-click Windows , choose New > Key, and name it WindowsUpdate . 4. Inside WindowsUpdate, right-click and choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. 5. Name it: TargetReleaseVersion 6. Set its value to 1. 7. Right-click again, choose New > String Value, and name it: TargetReleaseVersionInfo 8. Set its value to: Windows 10 Restart your computer to apply the changes. 🔒 Step 3: Pause Updates (Short-Term Option) If you want a temporary hold: 1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. 2. Click Pause updates for 7 days. 3. You can extend this up to 35 days. ✅ Step 4: Monitor Update Prompts • Avoid clicking “Download and install” if Windows 11 is offered. • You can also use tools like Windows Update MiniTool to manage updates manually.
