ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Dan Koehler. I've been working on computers as a hobby, repairing and building computers for my friends & family for almost 30 years. I believe that most computer problems can be fixed with a minimum of cash output if one is willing to learn about the problem they are experiencing. Many people don't have the time to research their specific problem and usually take the word of a salesman that certain parts need to be replaced or the entire computer needs to be replaced.

One of the things I enjoy most is getting a computer that has been declared dead and bringing it back to life. Sometimes this process can be time consuming and that is why some computer repair shops would rather sell someone a larger computer or replace hard drives and motherboards with the hope that that will fix the problem.

With todays access to the internet and the information available there it is a rare case, indeed, where the problem that you are having with your computer hasn't been experienced by someone else who had the courtesy to post their experience online for others who are having the same trouble.  This is where I find most of the solutions to the problems I encounter. You can too.

Over time, I am going to try to put up links to some of my favorite places to look for online solutions to problems. I am also going to post some solutions to problems I have encountered. you can find them on my blog.

Below, I have  a couple of suggestions where you might look for some information about computer fixes.

YouTube videos

YouTube is a great source of information. There are lots of videos that address various problems people have with their computers and what they did to fix them. If you search for your make and model I will bet you will come up with something.

Google

Google isn't just for finding a good place to eat. Try a search of the error code you see when your computer crashes and google it. Or just type in the problem itself and see how many sites pop up!
